VocabAct is a Chrome extension operated by NutSpace Edtech Pvt Ltd (“NutSpace”, “we”, “us”, or “our”). It helps people learn English vocabulary by highlighting supported words on webpages and opening matching NutSpace enactment videos. It also lets users deliberately request a word or short phrase for a future VocabAct.
This policy explains what information the VocabAct extension handles, how it is used, and the choices available to users.
Information handled by VocabAct
Visible webpage text
VocabAct reads eligible visible text on ordinary HTTP and HTTPS webpages to compare it with a locally cached vocabulary list. This matching happens on the user’s device.
NutSpace does not receive or store the webpage text, webpage URL, page title, surrounding text, or browsing history through this matching process. VocabAct does not process text inside passwords, form controls, editable content, code blocks, or links.
Information stored locally
VocabAct uses Chrome’s local extension storage for:
– the user’s highlighting enable/disable preference;
– a validated copy of the public VocabAct vocabulary list;
– the time of the last successful vocabulary refresh; and
– a concise refresh error, if a refresh fails.
This information remains on the user’s device and is used only to operate the extension. It can be removed by clearing the extension’s local data or uninstalling VocabAct.
Word and phrase requests
If a VocabAct is not available, a user may choose to request a word or short phrase. Nothing is submitted when text is merely selected or checked.
Only after the user selects **Request VocabAct** in the confirmation dialog does the extension send the cleaned word or phrase to NutSpace over HTTPS. The confirmation dialog explains that the term will be sent to NutSpace and may be reviewed by the VocabAct team.
The request does not include the webpage URL, page title, surrounding text, browsing history, the user’s identity, email address, cookies, or authentication information. Users should not enter names, contact details, or other personal
information in a vocabulary request.
Submitted terms and their aggregate request counts may be stored and reviewed by authorized VocabAct team members to:
– decide which vocabulary videos to create;
– manage duplicate requests;
– operate the request queue; and
– prevent abuse.
As with ordinary secure web requests, NutSpace’s infrastructure providers may process limited technical information such as an IP address, browser user-agent, request time, and security logs as necessary to deliver, secure, and maintain the service.
Learning videos
A video connection is created only after a user activates a highlighted term or chooses to watch an existing VocabAct. Embedded videos use YouTube’s
privacy-enhanced `youtube-nocookie.com` domain and do not autoplay.
When a video is opened, the user’s browser connects to YouTube. Google may receive standard connection information under its own privacy policy. NutSpace does not receive the user’s YouTube account information through VocabAct.
How information is used
VocabAct handles information only to:
– identify supported vocabulary locally;
– display the corresponding learning video;
– remember extension settings and maintain the vocabulary cache;
– receive and assess deliberately submitted vocabulary requests; and
– protect and maintain the reliability of the service.
VocabAct does not use submitted terms or locally processed webpage text for personalized advertising, cross-site tracking, profiling, credit decisions, or
purposes unrelated to its vocabulary-learning function.
Sharing and service providers
NutSpace does not sell or rent information handled by VocabAct.
We use service providers only where necessary to operate the extension:
Supabase hosts the public vocabulary feed and the vocabulary-request service.
YouTube/Google delivers user-requested learning videos.
Information may also be disclosed when required by applicable law, to protect the security of the service, or as part of a corporate transaction subject to
appropriate safeguards.
Data retention
Local extension settings and cached vocabulary remain on the user’s device until they are refreshed, cleared, or the extension is uninstalled.
Submitted words or phrases and their request counts are retained while needed to assess demand, manage the request queue, prevent duplicate or abusive submissions, and plan VocabAct content. They are deleted or anonymized when no longer needed for these purposes. Technical security logs are retained according to NutSpace’s and its infrastructure providers’ operational and security needs.
Security
VocabAct transmits vocabulary requests and downloads the vocabulary feed using HTTPS. Requests omit browser credentials, and the extension sends only the confirmed word or phrase in the request body. No remote executable code is loaded by the extension.
No security system can guarantee absolute protection, but NutSpace uses reasonable technical and organizational safeguards appropriate to the limited
information handled by VocabAct.
Children and families
VocabAct is intended for a broad audience that may include children, parents, teachers, and adult learners. The extension does not require an account and does not ask users to provide a name, email address, age, school, or other personal details. Vocabulary requests must contain only a word or short phrase and must not contain personal information.
A parent or guardian may contact NutSpace with a privacy question or deletion request using the address below.
User choices and requests
Users can:
– turn highlighting off from the VocabAct toolbar;
– cancel a vocabulary request before it is submitted;
– clear locally stored extension data or uninstall VocabAct; and
– ask a privacy question or request deletion of a submitted term by contacting NutSpace.
To help us locate a submitted term, include the exact word or phrase and the approximate submission date. Do not send additional personal information unless it is necessary for the request.
Chrome Web Store limited-use disclosure
VocabAct uses information only to provide and improve its disclosed single purpose: helping users learn English vocabulary in context. Information is not sold, used for personalized advertising, or transferred for unrelated purposes.
Human review is limited to words or phrases that users deliberately submit after the confirmation dialog explains that the request will be sent to NutSpace for review, or where access is necessary for security or legal compliance.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when VocabAct’s functionality or legal requirements change. We will update the effective date and provide any additional notice required by law or Chrome Web Store policy before materially different data handling begins.
