Description

We are all aware of the benefits of stories and music for our young children, so why not combine them! Active music making activities can help with engagement of under 5’s and with retaining sounds, words and actions, in a way that only music can.

Neuromusical evidence suggests that music in early years can play a valuable role to close the gap in the areas that have suffered during the pandemic years, supporting children with self-regulation, group skills and building strong foundations for maths, literacy and learning generally. It can also support development of pro-social behaviour and social cohesion which in turn support children’s social and emotional wellbeing. Combine music with stories and we have a powerful tool for boosting children’s school ready development, and lifelong love of music and literature with it!

In this webinar we consider how music and stories can combine to support development of strong foundations for phonics through playing with letter sounds.

Nutspace Founder Rohini Vij discovered the power of Boogie Mites music for enlivening her storytelling sessions for under 5’s:

“I have always believed in the immense power of stories and music in the classroom. As a story educator, I am always looking for new and exciting ways to engage young learners. I usually start a lesson with a warm-up activity, this could be a game, a breathing exercise, fun facts or a song. This initial onboarding activity ensures that the students are hooked at the outset. This mostly works for children above six years of age. However, for children in the early years it’s musical engagement at the beginning of a lesson that alone captures their attention.

When I discovered music by Boogie Mites, a few years ago, I knew I had to integrate it into my lessons. These songs were not the usual rhymes, they were music stories, the missing ingredient in my lesson! Before long, the storytelling class for toddlers turned into a music stories lesson. We now start all our lessons with an active body movement and music routine where children use a variety of props as they move and shake along with peppy beats and catchy words. The rhyme and rhythm quality and rich vocabulary along with an active body movement routine fosters early language development, numeracy skills, fine and gross motor control, imagination and general awareness, among others. The children and parents of NutSpace are hooked on Boogie Mites!”

Join this training session to learn from the knowledge and expertise of Rohini and Tasha, to cover a Nutspace letter sound story and song, plus 2 Boogie Mites songs which you can trial and enjoy with the children in your care.

You will have access to a recording of the session for one week after the live date and access to the stories and songs forever.

This training session will be relevant for all teachers, carers and parents of children in early years (2-5 years).
